Koprivshtitsa Tour

The Koprivshtitsa Tour will show you one of the most charming small Bulgarian towns, still preserving the atmosphere of the National Revival period, a huddled in the mountain folds 111 km. east of Sofia. The town is a unique combination of a legendary history and fascinating present. The silvery river, spacious meadows, bracing air, cobble-paved peaceful streets, magic stone and wood have a universal charm of their own. No other Bulgarian museum town boasts such a large number of houses and monuments – 388 in all, most of which have been restored to their original appearance: the living witness of the turbulent history of this parts.

A unique collection of ethnographic treasures, old weapons, National Revival works of art, the fretwork, household weaves and embroidery, national costumes and typical Bulgarian jewelry has also been preserved.

In 1952, the city was declared the only city-museum in the country, and since 1971 it has been an architectural and historical reserve, with a total of 388 architectural, historical, artistic, and ethnographic monuments. In 1978, it was recognized as a national architectural reserve of international importance and as an international tourist destination.
