Sofia Opera & Wagner Experience – Opera Tour in Bulgaria
Sofia Opera has opened a new chapter in Bulgaria’s cultural scene, proving its artistic ambition and international standards. Today, the theatre stands proudly alongside major European and American opera companies, offering outstanding productions for opera lovers, classical music enthusiasts and cultural travellers.
For decades, many believed that Richard Wagner’s operas were “too complex” for local performers and audiences. Sofia Opera changed that perception — bringing Wagner’s monumental works to life and expanding the national repertoire with masterpieces never before staged in Bulgaria.
A truly historic achievement is Sofia Opera’s long-term commitment to staging Wagner with an all-Bulgarian cast. Since 2010, these productions have remained part of the repertoire for more than fourteen years. Today, Sofia Opera presents eight Wagner operas, with around forty artists regularly performing on stage — and the Wagner tradition continues to inspire new generations of singers and musicians.
