We at Tandem Travel are excited to share the second chapter of our series “Tales Along the Rails”! After our debut through the Eastern Rhodopes, this journey takes us northwest—on one of Bulgaria’s most scenic train routes—through the breathtaking Iskar Gorge.
We offer you to travel green and take the train. After nearly two-hour train ride trough a picturesque landscape along the Iskar gorge you arrive at the Lyuti Brod station – the gateway to the Northwest. The rock formationts are 80 metres high and between 3 and 7 meters thick and have marked the portal for 120 million years. Around and between them, life has bubbled since time immemorial. At their foot are the well-preserved remains of an early Christian two-aisled church from the 3rd-4th centuries, and next to it a medieval church from the 11th-12th centuries.
At the station you will be welcomed by the “Jolly Vintners” – Ivana and Dimitar, who will not only introduce you to the local culture and history, but will also prepare a rich tasting of wines from the Northwest, garnished with delicacies from the region.
In the afternoon we will take train back to Sofia.
